Definition of Term

runoff
(English) Precipitation that flows across the ground and enters streams, rivers and lakes; may carry pollutants. Also used for the total discharge of a stream, both surface and subsurface, over a given time period. Defined as the depth to which a drainage area would be covered if all of the runoff for a given period of time were uniformly distributed over it.
