Development is completed inside the confined egg space. When individuals are released from the brood pouch, they look like premature juveniles. At hatching, the mouth is already functional and the dorsal fin rays are clearly visible. Pigmentation marks (4-5) appear in the ventral side of the primordial marginal fin. At hatching, the yolk-sac is completely absorbed.
