Etymology: Notopogon: Greek, noton = back + Greek, pogon = beard (Ref. 45335).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ökologie
seewasser bathydemersal; tiefenbereich 150 - 580 m (Ref. 9563). Deep-water
Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic: Southwest Pacific: Southeast Pacific: Juan Fernández Is, Nazca Ridge and Sala-y-Gomez, Chile (Ref. 50546). Southwest Atlantic: From Southern Brazil to northern Argentina (Ref. 42513). Previous reports from New South Wales and Victoria (Australia) and New Zealand are misidentifications for Notopogon xenosoma Regan, 1914 (Ref. 42513).
Size / Gewicht / Alter
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 18.0 cm TL Männchen/unbestimmt; (Ref. 9563)
Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 6; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 17; Afterflossenstacheln 0; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 18. Six oblique purplish-blue bands on each side of body, ground color of body silvery white. Gill cover and subocular region silvery. Upper parts of head and snout dark blue.
