เงี่ยงครีบหลัง (รวม): 0; ก้านครีบอ่อนที่หาง (รวม): 9-11; เงี่ยงครีบก้น 0; ก้านครีบอ่อนที่ก้น: 7 - 8; สัตว์มีกระดูกสันหลัง: 40 - 43. Anterior interorbital laterosensory pore well separated from the posterior nostril. Usually 2 pairs of pores below the lower jaw. Short gill rakers.

Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Lives on rocky shores of lakes. Bottom-dweller of upland lakes and associated streams, frequently under and around rocks on gravel substrates (Ref. 44894). Feeds on insects, small crustaceans and mollusks.
