Ραχιαίες άκανθες (συνολικά): 1; Μαλακές ραχιαίες ακτίνες (συνολικά): 7. Abdomen almost completely naked, except for a single posterior complex of plates consisting of a well-developed preanal plate, usually bordered by 3 polygonal plates. These plates are connected to the thoracic plates by 1 or 2 small squarish platelets facing the base of the pelvic-fin spine. Tip of snout with a globular protuberance of naked skin. Pectoral fins reaching slightly beyond the origin of pelvic fins.

Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Inhabits small creeks and rivers with shallow, clear water, lurking among the bottom rocks and stones (Ref. 40941).
