Etymology: Dicrossus: Greek, di = two + Greek, krossoi = tassel (Ref. 45335);  warzeli: Named for Frank Martin Warzel, a skilled German aquarist who collected the type specimens and who first imported the species from the Rio Tapajos to Germany, as well as observed its behaviour, including reproduction in the filed and in the aquarium..

पृष्ठीय रीढ़ (सम्पूर्ण): 15 - 17; पृष्ठीय सौफट रेज़ (सम्पूर्ण): 6-8; गुदा कांटा 3; ऐनल सौफट रेज़: 6 - 7. Can be distinguished easily by its three longitudinal rows of dark grey to blackish, horizontally elongate, dash-like spots on the sides of the body; and caudal fin spatulate in adult males. Exhibits clear sexual size and color dimorphism (Ref. 85095).

Inhabits exclusively clear-water rivers. Juveniles measuring about 2.0 cm SL occur in small brooks with sandy bottoms and patches of leaf litter. Observed searching the bottom substrate for small invertebrates and detritus by picking up and turning the leaves. Collected only in very soft water (no detectable hardness) with high acidity, pH value mostly less than 4 (Ref. 85095).
