Etymology: Lamiopsis: Etymology not explained nor evident, perhaps Gill thought L. temminckii resembled (-opsis, Greek for appearance) members of the family Lamnidae (Lamia = Lamna). (See ETYFish); temminckii: In honor of Coenraad Jacob Temminck (1778-1858), director of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (Leiden, Netherlands), who “unlocked the treasures” (translation) of the museum during the authors’ visit in 1837. Spine dorsali (totale): 0; Raggi dorsali molli (totale): 0; Spine anali 0; Raggi anali molli: 0. Grey or yellow-grey above, lighter below; no conspicuous markings (Ref. 9997).

A little-known shark found in coastal, inshore waters (Ref. 244). Probably feeds on small fishes and invertebrates (Ref. 9997). Viviparous (Ref. 50449). Not known to be dangerous to people (Ref. 244). Meat utilized fresh and dried salted for human consumption, liver for oil (Ref.244). Caught irregularly by inshore gillnet fisheries, particularly those operating off Borneo (Ref.58048).
