Comments: Specimens collected in May 1913 from the type locality, a small water creek near Taytay, Palawan (18:5.8-12 cm TL) (Ref. 2854). Also found in Culion and Busuanga islands in the Calamian group north of Palawan (Ref. 13489). Reported from Manguao Lake, in the littoral zone; a bottom-dwelling carnivorous species (Ref. 50862). Penesilurus palavanensis: Described from a 10.8 cm specimen (in a poor condition) caught in 1913 with hook and line at the type locality, Lake Manguao, Palawan (Ref. 2854). Used in the aquarium trade (Ref. 12157). No specimen was caught in the 1989 survey (Ref. 13489). Also Ref. 280, 94476.

เงี่ยงครีบหลัง (รวม): 0; ก้านครีบอ่อนที่หาง (รวม): 3-4; เงี่ยงครีบก้น 0; ก้านครีบอ่อนที่ก้น: 55 - 61. Preserved color yellowish brown; a large dark lateral blotch between pectoral fin and lateral line; fins colorless. Dorsal and pelvic fins very small; pectorals short, its spine stout and sharp-pointed; long, wide anal fin free from caudal.
