Africa: Essentially from the Congo basin (Ref. 2880, 5331, 80290), but also known from coastal basins of Cameroon (Ref. 2880, 5331, 80290, 81279). Present in Sanaga, Ogowe and Kouilou basins (Ref. 80290). Known from lakes Mweru, Bangweulu, Upemba and Tanganyika (Ref. 5331, 80290) and Cuanza and Luculla Rivers in Angola (Ref. 5331).

Short description

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 20 - 23. Diagnosis: 18-20 (Ref. 2880, 80290, 81279) or 17-18 (Ref. 11970) branched anal-fin rays. 17-22 gill rakers on lower limb of first gill arch; 36-44 lateral line scales; dorsal-fin origin at about same level of pelvic-fin insertions (Ref. 2880, 80290, 81279).
