Found in Kerala (Ref. 43630); Maharashtra (Ref. 43634); Bhavanisagar, Tamil Nadu (Ref. 44148); West Bengal, Bihar (Ref. 4833), East Punjab, Assam and Orissa (Ref. 45255). Recorded from Cauvery and Chaliyar Rivers (Ref. 44149) and also from Chilka Lake (Ref. 29108). Captured by spearing in West Bengal and Bihar and also offered to Goddess Kali by the Hindus (Ref. 4833). Lower risk - near threatened status in Western Ghats, India (Ref. 44149). Present in Buxa, Adma and Jayanti rivers (Ref. 89719); Fenny, Gumti rivers at Tripura (Ref. 97593). Also Ref. 41236, 43640, 45204.

Status of threat: Low risk in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614).
