Occurs throughout most of Canada (Ref. 52559). A native fishery is existing; rarely caught as a game fish (Ref. 52559). Makes good soups and chowders; but not highly favoured commercially. Has a real and unutilized potential as a game fish. Reared as the main food for hatchery rearing of game fishes. Also Ref. 1998, 5723, 27549, 93252.
