Known only from Lakes Pedder and Gordon (Ref. 3881; 32711). This species is under threat due to competition and predation from the exotic brown trout, Salmo trutta (Ref. 48787), and the native climbing galaxias, Galaxias brevipinnis, which have been introduced and or have invaded the impoundment and its tributaries following the inundation of the original habitat; and destruction and loss of original lowland/slow-flowing habitats due to flooding (Ref. 26187). Endangered in Tasmania and Australia (Ref. 48666).

Status of threat: Critically endangered (Ref. 51305). Also Ref. 44894.
