Comments Widely used in composite fish culture although it is controversial as it has established itself in Gobindsagar reservoir in Himachal Pradesh and known to compete with catla. Recorded ponds and lakes of Nilgiris (Ref. 92228). The introduction of this species, no doubt, has increased the aquaculture production per unit area particularly in the foot hills where the Indian major carps cannot thrive well, but at the same time it has affected the indigenous faunas such as Maliseer. The consumers' preference for this species is less compared to other exotic carps, perhaps due to fast autolysis of the flash of this species.     Ref:  Shetty, H.P.C., M.C. Nandeesha and A.G. Jhingran, 1989
