Diagnosis: eye greater than snout length; uniformely dark male breeding color, including the dorsal fin margin (Ref. 55949).

Description: large eyes; head with moderate concavity above eye; premaxillary pedicel long and prominent; tip of lower jaw protrudes beyond that of the upper jaw (Ref. 55949).

Coloration: non-breeding fish silvery and countershaded; mature, possible ripe, males dark grey to black all over, including the dorsal fin margin; flanks with bronze iridescence; 1-3 pale yellow eggspots on anal fin (Ref. 55949).
