Diagnosis

Dorsal fin with 8 1/2 branched rays; presence of conspicuous pad on tip of snout overhanging mouth; body with 13-17 dark brown transverse bars; pectoral fin reaches midway to base of pelvic, the latter just reaches anus or a little beyond; anus situated nearer to anal fin than to origin of pelvic fin; mouth semicircular, situated a little behind the snout; upper lip thin, moderately hypertrophied, a pad-like structure in the middle; body covered with scales except hear, but more sparsely between pectoral fins; scales minute, oval-shaped with large focus (Ref. 42975).
