Etymology: Oreichthys: Latin, aurum = gold + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335);  andrewi: Named for Andrew Arunava Rao, not only because he collected this species, but also in appreciation of his enthusiasm and support to ichthyology around the world. A noun in the masculine genitive singular.

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal soft rays: 7. Differs all other speces of Oreichthys by having the following characters:lateral line complete; 30+1 scales in the lateral line series; ½4/1/2½ scales in the transverse row; nine predorsal scales; and bright yellow pelvic fins (Ref. 95042).
