Teleostei (teleosts) > Anabantiformes (Gouramies, snakeheads) > Badidae (Chameleonfishes)
Etymology: Badis: 'badis' is presumably a Bengali local name, possibly derived from 'bhedo' or 'bheda', but it lacks a proper reference. Probably incorrect etymology (J. Müller, pers. comm., April 2021, after information from native speakers);  kyanos: From the ancient Greek ‘kyanós’ (κυανός), a noun, (sometimes spelled ‘kuanos’ (κύανος)), from which the word kyanite is derived. Kyanite is a type of granite which consists of blue-grey crystals and in one of its natural forms resembles the color pattern of the new species..

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01122 (0.00514 - 0.02450), b=3.04 (2.87 - 3.21), in cm total length, based on all LWR estimates for this body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
