Etymology: Sphyraena: Greek, sphyraina, -es = the name of a fish (Ref. 45335); intermedia: The name 'intermedia' comes from the intermediate anatomic characters of the new species with S. sphyraena and S. viridensis (in particular the otoliths and intestinal villi)..

Short description
Morphology | Morphometrics
Collected using gill nets, trawl nets, seining and 'lampara' engine. Stomach contents include remains of cephalopods, Sardina pilchardus or Sardinella aurita, a young Sphyraena sphyraena, and fluid materials. Some were infected in the stomach and gonads by the anisakid nematode Anisakis sp. (Ref. 82428).
