Remarks 'Brochet' from Latin slang 'brocca', feminine substantive of 'brochus' = projecting, pointed, 'broche', 'brochet' for its pointed snout (p. 112 in Ref. 9404, see also 'gade' and 'morue'); 'maillé', i.e., meshed, from Latin 'macula', i.e., mesh (also spot) (p. 436 in Ref. 9404).
