Fish affected:    
Symptoms: Obvious signs include lethargic swimming, loss of weight, dark coloration, and the infected fish swims near the sides of the pond or near the surface. The gills of heavily infected fish shows clumping of gill filaments and formation of a visible mass or cyst. (Ref. 51484). These cyst, when ruptured would cause gill inflammation resulting in respiratory problems of the host fish(Ref. 45600).  
Treatments: No successful treatment yet.  
Prophylaxis: Assurance of stocked uninfected fish, elimination of infective stages in ponds (alternate hosts, e.g. Oligochaetes), and the removal of viable spores from pond bottoms. These can be done by draining, drying and disinfection (e.g. use of quicklime or CaO) and filtration or disinfection of intake waters.  
Remarks: Infection commonly occurs in the connective tissue of gill filaments, subcutaneous tissue and internal organs. Also ref. 026129, ref. 51484, and ref. 45600.
