Family:  Plesiopidae (Roundheads), subfamily: Acanthoclininae
Max. size:  5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 7 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Kenya to Natal, South Africa and from Seychelles, Masirah Island off central Oman, and India.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 18-20; Dorsal soft rays (total): 3-5; Anal spines: 8-10; Anal soft rays: 3-5
Biology:  Adults inhabit quiet, weedy water (Ref. 5472). Eggs are guarded by the male parent (Ref. 205).

Threat to humans:  harmless
