Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobiinae
Max. size:  18 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean and Southeast Atlantic: Delagoa Bay to Cape Peninsula, South Africa. Doubtful record from the brackish waters of Madagascar.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-12. 8-12 dark bars on body (Ref. 2798).
Biology:  Epibenthic, littoral, intertidal in rock pools (Ref. 4343). Also found in brackish waters (Ref. 11344).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 19 July 2017 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
