Family:  Latilidae (Deepwater tilefishes)
Max. size:  90 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 7,000.0 g; max. reported age: 15 years
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 30 - 162 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina to southern Florida in USA and Mexico; also in northern and probably eastern Gulf of Mexico.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs on mud and rubble bottom. Feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates (crustaceans, mollusks, polychaetes and brittle stars) and fishes. Captured mainly from 75 to 200 m deep and occurring to at least 236 m (Ref. 6134). Marketed fresh.
