Family:  Chimaeridae (Shortnose chimaeras or ratfishes)
Max. size:  64 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 750 - 1600 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: known only from the type locality, Sagami Sea (Japan). Eastern Atlantic: Western Sahara to about Guinea. Taxonomic status of the West African specimens is uncertain.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Oviparous (Ref. 205). Eggs are encased in horny shells (Ref. 205).
