Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Limpopo River system in Transvaal, South Africa (Ref. 7248, 52193) and Usutu River in Swaziland (pers. comm. Klaasen, 1997); and upper Lufira system (upper Congo River basin) in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Reported as Barbus aff. motebensis from the Chitanda River, Longonjo (afflt. Cunene)(Ref. 11970). Two subspecies are recognized: Enteromius motebensis motebensis in South Africa and Swaziland and Enteromius motebensis kamaiae in Democratic Republic of the Congo.
