Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 183 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: Hawaii.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal soft rays: 8-8; Vertebrae: 55-55. Exceptionally large eye, mean eye length 6.3% in SL; mean head length 26.7 in SL (Ref. 38037).
Biology:  Burrowing in sand and benthic, sometimes pelagic at shallow depths (Ref. 58302).
