Max. size:  150 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Pacific: southern Japan to the South China Sea (Ref. 559), Australia and New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 135-138
Biology:  Occurs in inshore waters (Ref. 7300). If provoked this species will make a lightning fast bite before retreating (Ref. 30464).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 August 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
