Family:  Characidae (Characins; tetras), subfamily: Stevardiinae
Max. size:  8.995 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: San Rafael Creek and Apia River in the Risaralda River system, upper Cauca River in Colombia.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 40-41. Differs from all other species of the genus by the number of cusps on the row of internal premaxilla teeth (3-5 vs. 5-7 except Hemibrycon surinamensis), the number of predorsal scales (10-12 vs.12-17, except Hemibrycon jelskii and Hemibrycon orcesi ), and by postcleithrum 1 much closer to postcleithrum 2 (vs. postcleithrum 1 and 2 clearly separated). Biology:  Inhabits clear water with stone and sand substrates (Ref. 77138).
