Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Sodwana Bay, South Africa and islands in the western Indian Ocean.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-11. 8 diffuse saddles on head and body (Ref. 2798); body with 4-5 rows of ctenoid scales on caudal peduncle; second dorsal-fin rays I,10-11; pelvic-fin rays I,4 (rarely with rudimentary fifth ray); operculum with 2 spines dorsally (Ref. 57078).
