Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Ohio and Mississippi River basins from southwestern Indiana and southern Illinois to Louisiana, USA; Gulf Slope drainages from Escambia River in Florida and Alabama, to Sabine River in Texas, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs usually over mud and near detritus in swamps, oxbows, and backwater and pools of sluggish streams (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205), probably open substratum spawners like congeners.
