Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Xyrichtyinae
Max. size:  19 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range - 5 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Southern Japan and Taiwan, south to at least peninsular Malaysia at 3°N.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found on sandy open areas near shallow reefs at about 5 m. Dives into sand to sleep safely at night or to hide when alarmed (Ref. 90102).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 25 March 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
