Distribution:  North America: Gulf drainages from extreme lower Mobile Bay basin in Alabama to Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana, USA; Yazoo River, Big Black River and Bayou Pierre drainages (Mississippi River basin) in Mississippi, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits sand-bottomed and gravel-bottomed pools of headwaters, creeks and small rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205).
