Family:  Melamphaidae (Bigscale fishes or ridgeheads)
Max. size:  11.3 cm SL (female)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 50 - 1000 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Sea of Okhotsk, west of the Kuril Islands.
Diagnosis:  This species is distinguished by having the following characters: with 2 spines ('spurs') directed downward and laterally on hemal spine of the first caudal vertebra and posttemporal (temporal) spine directed anterodorsally; pelvic fins start in front of the level of pectoral fins; 31 transverse scale rows from nape to the beginning of caudal fin and 26 from the temple; preserved color light (Ref. 84880)
