Family:  Danionidae (Danios), subfamily: Chedrinae
Max. size:  10.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Zamboanga, Basilan, Palawan, and Busuanga; probably occurs in Tawi-Tawi and Balabac.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 12-14. Specimens dusky above, pale or pale-yellowish sides and belly; opercle and preopercle silvery; scales outlined by dark dots. Head naked; mouth large, oblique; upper thin lip slightly protractile with a median notch into which fits a small knob on tip of lower lip. Pectoral pointed, tip extending beyond origin of small ventrals; caudal slightly longer than head with the lower lobe larger. Belly with a sharp, cutting edge. Barbels shorter than head; number of anal fin rays smaller than N. everetti and N. steindachneri. 22-23 scales from nape to dorsal.
