Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 10 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Southeast Pacific: Peru and northern Chile, including the Galapagos Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-19; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-14
Biology:  Adults inhabit rocky coasts (Ref. 9334). Feed on benthic algae and invertebrates (Ref. 28023). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
