Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  7 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Lake St. Lucia in South Africa northwards, probably up to the Red Sea. Reported as likely at Seychelles (Ref. 1623) but Randall and van Egmond 1994 (Ref. 10685) believe otherwise.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Dark vertical bars below lateral line; 1st dorsal, anterior of 2nd dorsal, anal and caudal lobes dark, pelvic fins black (Ref. 4329).
