| Diagnosis: | Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12. Paracanthocobitis canicula can be diagnosed from all other congeners by the combination of the following characters: complete lateral line; presence of axillary pelvic lobe; male with suborbital groove; well defined, jagged dorsal saddles extending almost to lateral line; large squarish blotches, with medial ventral and dorsal notches, centered just below lateral line; round black caudal spot well below upper margin of caudal peduncle; pelvic fin with 8 rays; caudal fin with 5-7 dark bands (Ref. 102002). | |||
