Distribution:  Africa: Upper Niger, Volta, Mono and Ouémé basins.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-27; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 27-34. Body depth 3.0-3.5 x SL, caudal peduncle height 16.1-18.1 x SL, anal fin base 3.4-3.8 x SL. Eye diameter 3.0-3.5 x head length. Generally silvery color, sometimes with 1st dorsal fin rays grayish. Dorsal spot separated from dorsal fin base. Base of caudal peduncle marked with gray bar.
Biology:  Affinities: P. bovei.
