Family:  Haemulidae (Grunts), subfamily: Plectorhinchinae
Max. size:  44 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 5 - 20 m
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Sri Lanka and Andaman Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 14-14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 19-19; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-7. Description: Body greyish silver; head ventrally white, operculum margin brownish yellow; pectoral fin pale, axil black, other fins black. Body depth 2.6-2.8 in SL. Dorsal 3rd to 5th spines longest. Caudal fin emarginate slightly. (Ref. 90102)
Biology:  Found in small to large aggregations in coastal fringing reefs (Ref. 90102).
