Family:  Anthiadidae (Fairy basslets or Streamer basses)
Max. size:  3.98 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 6 - 65 m
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: widespread, and except for the two Red Sea specimens, this species is not found in the Western Indian Ocean.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 6-8. Description: Size up to 4.0 cm SL. Closely resembles P. longimanus but has more pectoral fin rays and pored lateral line scales (Ref. 37816). Characterized by having 4-17 coarse serrae at upper margin of preopercle; greatest depth of body 2.9-3.6 in SL; rounded caudal fin (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  A secretive species that inhabits coral or rubble habitats of deep channels and exposed reefs (Ref. 1602, 58302). Benthic (Ref. 58302). Solitary in crevices (Ref 90102).
