Family:  Aploactinidae (Velvetfishes)
Max. size:  8.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Port Amelia, Mozambique to Natal, South Africa. Reported as likely at Seychelles (Ref. 1623) but Randall and van Egmond 1994 (Ref. 10685) believe otherwise.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 14-16; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 6-7. Light brown to nearly black in color.
Biology:  Anterolateral glandular groove with venom gland (Ref. 57406).
