Family:  Holocentridae (Squirrelfishes, soldierfishes), subfamily: Holocentrinae
Max. size:  11 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 30 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Bahamas and Texas, USA to the Cayman Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal soft rays: 8-9. Body and fins red with black blotch on membrane between first 4 spines of dorsal fin. Blackish spot or saddle on caudal peduncle (Ref. 7251). Pectoral axil pale (Ref. 37108).
Biology:  Probably more common on shelf-edge reefs (Ref. 51183).
