Environment:  demersal; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  Asia: Krishna, Godavary and Cauvery river systems in Western Ghats, Peninsular India
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occur in large rivers and reservoirs (Ref. 41236). A gregarious fish, moves in shoals during monsoon (Ref. 43629). Oviparous, eggs are unguarded (Ref. 205). Feed on fish. A dominant species in the catches from deep waters, especially during the monsoon months, April-July (Ref. 4833).
