Distribution:  Western Atlantic: known only from Jamaica, Panama (Atlantic coast), and Cuba, but probably widespread in the Caribbean.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 12-14. Exhibits geographic color variations.
Biology:  Adults inhabit brackish or freshwater at salinities ranging from 3 to 31.5 ppt., found in bays, estuaries, and lower reaches of freshwater streams (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
