Family:  Alepocephalidae (Slickheads)
Max. size:  27.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 300 - 2000 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: British Columbia, Canada (Ref. 11980) to Peru (Ref. 35724). Southwest Pacific: New South Wales, Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-24; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-24; Vertebrae: 43-50. Branchiostegal rays: 7-8.
Biology:  Occurs on the continental slope (Ref. 7300). Oviparous, with mesopelagic eggs and larvae, or probably in deeper waters (Ref. 35724).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 04 February 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
