Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 5 - 7; dH range: 5 - 12
Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin, along the Amazon-Solimões River drainage from the Japurá River to the Tapajós River, and in the middle and lower Negro River basin.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in clear streams with a pH of 6.8 (Ref. 12251). Feeds on worms, crustaceans and insects (Ref. 7020), but needs plants as supplement (Ref. 40602).
