Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
Max. size:  31 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 280.8 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and Java (Ref. 26580); Mekong and Chao Phraya basins (Ref. 43281).
Diagnosis:  Enlarged suborbital bones occupying most of cheek; each caudal lobe with a dark stripe; longitudinal stripe across dorsal (Ref. 43281).
Biology:  Found mainly in medium to large-sized rivers (Ref. 12975). Found in large rivers during the dry season and in floodplain streams and canals during the wet season. Does not persist in impoundments (Ref. 12693). Feeds on algae (Ref. 12975), phytoplankton (Ref. 12693), fish and crustaceans (Ref. 56749).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from the Mekong basin (Ref. 12693, 43281). Most often seen in the Tonlé Sap from October through December as flood waters recede. Formerly common in the Tonlé Sap, but fishermen now report it as rare (Ref. 12693). Reported from Battembang (Ref. 36654).
