Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
Max. size:  31 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 280.8 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and Java (Ref. 26580); Mekong and Chao Phraya basins (Ref. 43281).
Diagnosis:  Enlarged suborbital bones occupying most of cheek; each caudal lobe with a dark stripe; longitudinal stripe across dorsal (Ref. 43281).
Biology:  Found mainly in medium to large-sized rivers (Ref. 12975). Found in large rivers during the dry season and in floodplain streams and canals during the wet season. Does not persist in impoundments (Ref. 12693). Feeds on algae (Ref. 12975), phytoplankton (Ref. 12693), fish and crustaceans (Ref. 56749).

Country info:  Known from Sumatra (Lampong, Pangahuang, Lahat, Palembang, Kwantan R., Kampar R., Indragiri, Djambi), Borneo (Kapuas, Barito, Mahakam), and Java (Batavia, Tangerong, Rankasbetong, Lebak, Buitenzorg, Parongkalong, Brantas R., Surabaya, Gempal). Found in the Kapuas Lakes Area, western Borneo. Recorded from Danau Sentarum National Park in the Kapuas basin of Borneo, Kalimantan Barat (Ref. 56749). Occurs mainly in the Kapuas mainstream and the lowermost reaches of the main tributaries (Ref. 56749). Also Ref. 7050, 26580.
