Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-12; Anal soft rays: 12-14; Vertebrae: 33-36. Without lateral line, without infraorbital process; with mostly 7 branched dorsal fin rays and 10 branched anal fin rays. Can be distinguished from other Danio species by the following combination of characters: narrow, indistinct dark vertical bars anteriorly on the sides, followed by a wide, indistinct, tapering horizontal stripe to the end of the caudal peduncle; barbels absent. |
| Occurs in high concentrations in large rivers, tributaries and ditches in clean, turbid or even polluted water over bedrock or gravel, sand, mud substrates. Fish collected from late March to the middle of April 1995 appeared to be sexually mature (Ref. 36341). |

Known from several localities in the mainstream and tributaries of the Daying Jiang River in the Irrawaddy drainage, southwestern Yunnan (Ref. 37787). Also collected in a small stream leading to the Daying Jiang, about 30 km from the Chinese-Myanmar border (Ref. 36341).
Known from Yunnan Yingjiang, Liang River, and Tengchong(Ref.33782).
