Family:  Dasyatidae (Stingrays), subfamily: Urogymninae
Max. size:  179 cm WD (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; brackish; marine, amphidromous
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: India, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. May venture into Indonesian waters; possibly off Mozambique (Ref. 9840).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in inshore waters and estuaries. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 50449).
IUCN Red List Status: Data deficient (DD); Date assessed: 11 February 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from Hooghly estuary, east coast of India and West Bengal coast (Ref. 45255). Common in Hooghly at Calcutta (West Bengal). Of minor economic importance to fisheries in inland waters (Ref. 4832).
